The Nick Mitchell Project

about
The Nick Mitchell Project (TNMP) started as a home studio project. Nick started writing aged 13 and at 19 started arranging and recording using a basic PC based sequencer (Cakewalk) after being fascinated by a performance by Adamski and Seal where the song ‘Killer’ was performed by turning on and off layers of instruments and sounds.
Nick started by playing keyboards, a short stint learning drums before finding the guitar. Nick learnt the guitar playing Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd riffs and licks. At that time, a remote local venue called the Frog & Bucket had live bands every night and Nick was a regular – stealing licks all the way. Bands he still sights as major influences are Gambler, The Hamsters and Be Sharp. During this time he was introduced to the music of Jimi Hendrix, Free and early ZZ Top which all feature in his live set.
Nick didn’t join his first band until his early 30’s where he helped set up MissLeader. This is where Nick met his two main collaborators. Performing with other musicians and sharing his music was very encouraging and set him on the journey to write and record more music.
Collaborators - Studio: Mick Miller has done many vocals for The Nick Mitchell Project over the years after briefly joining MissLeader. He features as the lead vocal on the 7 Deadly Sins album. Nick and Mick are co-founders of the Christmas Song Contest which is now an annual Facebook event open to the public. Nick also met Rebecca Ross during this time who has also contributed vocals to many of his projects over the years. Rebecca and Nick enjoyed local fame performing in the band On Edge.
Collaborators - Live: The live version of The Nick Mitchell Project is a power trio performing a more blues rock set playing original material as well as music from his heroes. Nick is joined by the rock steady GT on bass and the very talented Dave on Drums. The band enjoys the discipline of performing as a three piece because this offers stripped down versions of songs and the challenge of making a coherent sound with just the three instruments.
Nick also plays with ZipWired – a five piece based in Kent, UK offering a wide range of music perfect to get any party started.
Nick has released two albums to date, ‘7 Deadly Sins’ and ‘Blisters and Broken Strings’ which are both available to download on this site. There are always new tracks in progress and a new release is imminent … Please also visit Nick's ReverbNation and SoundCloud sites to access other tracks.
Lastly, Nick is always keen to network with like-minded musicians, start new collaborations or perform with other artists, so please Get In Touch if you have a project in mind.
